When we audit ppc campaigns I often ask who has been managing your campaigns until this moment and I always get this myself.
It might sound harsh, and I apologize in advance, but ppc is one thing you should never do if you are no expert. Your basic knowledge of bidding and phrase/exact/broad targeting is not enough.
I mean you can always do the designs on your own or maybe spend some time designing packaging on canva but when it comes to ppc, you need to make sure you know the numbers upside down.
Recently I audited a campaign of a brand and I noticed the client was spending $200 daily on irrelevant keywords. I am not just talking about bad targeting or unorganized keywords, I also noticed bad product targeting. Why would you target amazon basics products and similar when they are actually selling at a lower price and much higher reviews.
So to all hardworking sellers, hire a ppc expert who can actually make your campaign profitable from day one.

Not Knowing the Average CPA & Finalizing the product & Supplier

Having said that, make a table like below and figure out your margin. Next check the average CPA from tools like Helium 10.
So for instance if you are saving $5 dollars on every sale after all the deduction, CPA will tell you if it is worth moving forward with the product.
Hiring A Cheap Designer Because we’re just testing the market
So you really are not testing the market. You are just spending time on stuff that will eventually not work in the long run. Even if you are just testing the product, you still need quality graphics. In the online world, branding is so important that we as an agency say that if your product doesn’t stand out from the rest in terms of the main image, listing photos, brand story, and A+ Content, this simply means you aren't ready yet. Sit tight and work on making them perfect

Not Spending Anything on Marketing
Please note that organic growth for 90% of the product is not possible. You need a budget for ppc unless you are launching a completely new product with great pricing and stuff.
Also paid marketing never ends. It just needs to shift from one place to another. For example when many sellers see they are ranked for a certain keyword, they stop spending on that keyword.
This is so wrong. The bigger picture is that you are there because of your sales velocity and lowering ad spend could risk your organic ranking.
But yes you need to budget and spend on keywords according to your rankings.
Getting out of Stock & Ordering the inventory late
Every business comes with a risk. If you have a good start, you need to consider reordering the inventory right at that point. Also this is the time to further negotiate with the supplier and get a better deal on a larger number of inventory.
When you are near to get out of stock, reduce the market spending and increase the price so you just don’t get out of stock
And what happens when you do get out of stock? You lose your organic ranking and trust me starting all over will result in a high ACOS
